Multilingual Text Recognition
ABBYY continues to lead in the OCR language support. With FineReader 10, users can process documents in 186 languages including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Hebrew, Armenian, Cyrillic, Greek, and Latin. FineReader 10 also reads scripting languages and simple chemical formulas. The text recognition software includes dictionaries with spell-checking capabilities for -39 languages allowing verification of recognized text directly in the FineReader Editor.
Automatic Language Detection
FineReader 10 cuts an additional step in the OCR process by automatically detecting the appropriate document recognition language.
Magazine Page Recognition
FineReader 10 also introduces new recognition algorithm for processing documents with background images, and image-rich documents, such as magazine pages. Graphics and charts are detected and preserved in their entirety.
Text within Graphics
FineReader allows users to manually draw text areas inside the graphics area of document images. This feature is useful when users want to output documents that contain graphics, charts and screenshots into searchable PDFs. This way, FineReader 10 uses the text zoning to create underlying text enabling it to be searched.
Processing Documents with Signatures, Company Stamps, and Line Numbering
FineReader 10 automatically identifies the specialized elements and formatting typically found in legal documents. For example, the program automatically locates and preserves signatures or company stamps in contracts and recognizes and reproduces line numbers in pleading documents.

FineReader 10 reads 20 types of barcodes, both 1D and 2D barcodes, and offers the option to treat them as images (default) or recognize barcodes and display their value. Users can change the default setting to allow FineReader to automatically analyze and recognize barcodes.
Special Recognition Mode for Typewritten and Fax Documents
FineReader 10 has a special mode for recognizing typewritten text for converting legacy documents. FineReader 10 also introduced a special mode for processing faxes to handle common problems in fax documents, such as printing artifacts and low resolution. Correction of 3D Image Distortion
It is common to capture a document at an angle. The result is that the top of the captured images often look larger than the button, or vice versa. FineReader provide an automatic 3D image correction tool and trapezium crop function to correct the image distortion for better OCR processing.
ISO noise Correction
FineReader offers a unique tool to remove the ISO noise commonly appearing on digital camera images due to the low light or incorrect camera ISO sensitivity settings.
Blurred Image Correction
There are many causes for image blur, such as hand movement, object movement, zooming or low camera sensitivity. FineRedaer is able to reduce the image blur for any of these reasons and improve the image quality.

Hot Folder and Scheduling
FineReader 10 offers fully automated batch processing of images for work groups using networked scanning devices like digital copiers or fax servers. The Hot Folder & Scheduling function allows users to designate a folder location on a local drive, network drive, FTP server or a mailbox folder to be monitored or "watched" by FineReader. FineReader will automatically process files in the background using the pre-defined settings. Users who need to process large volumes of documents during off hours can use the scheduler function to define the processing task and processing time. For example, a company may wish to schedule processing for large volumes of documents after-office hours when the computer is not overloaded by other tasks.
Nested Subfolder Watching
FineReader 10 allows users to monitor input folders, including nested subfolders for more efficient OCR conversion projects.
Shared Languages and Dictionaries
FineReader 10 allows multiple users to simultaneously access the same set of user languages and dictionaries available on the network. It also enables users to add words like names, acronyms and industry lingo to shared dictionaries. The added words help expand the spell-check capabilities and also increase the recognition quality, since FineReader uses the dictionaries during the OCR process.
