Network Features:
Automated Network Installation
|
|
All main installation methods from the server to
workstations are supported. A system administrator can install
ABBYY FineReader from the server to workstations using Active
Directory, Microsoft Systems Management Server, and the
command line. |
Support for Networked Multi-Function
Peripherals
|
|
Ideal for workgroups sharing MFPs, digital copiers or fax
servers on a network, FineReader 7.0 can be connected to
networked scanning devices enabling each workstation to
receive images automatically. Administrators can use the
command line to set up FineReader to deliver images to each
workstation using. In this case FineReader will automatically
process scanned images and export the recognized documents to
specified application. Alternatively, FineReader can monitor a
specified folder ("hot folder") on a local disk, network drive
or FTP server for newly scanned images, faxes or PDF files. As
soon as new images are added to the folder, the program will
open these images and start processing them
automatically. |
Flexible License Management
|
|
License Manager is a new utility for managing licenses in a
network environment. The License Manager will allow you to
monitor the use of FineReader 7.0 Corporate Edition on
workstations, assign licenses to particular workstations, and
add new licenses.
With "concurrent license management," businesses can
install ABBYY FineReader 7.0 Corporate Edition on as many
workstations as necessary, paying only for "simultaneous use"
- the maximum number of workstations using the product at any
one time. |
Features for Optimal OCR:
Enhanced Recognition
Accuracy
25%* overall average accuracy
improvement ABBYY FineReader 7.0 is based on an entirely
new recognition platform that includes enhancements to ABBYY’s
proprietary IPA Technology, a unique technology that imitates the
way humans and animals recognize objects. FineReader 7.0 delivers a
25 percent average accuracy improvement over the previous version,
further saving users time and energy spent retyping or checking
documents.
33%* accuracy improvement in
"difficult-to-read" documents
In FineReader 7.0, ABBYY has further enhanced the program's
ability to handle "difficult-to-read” documents, such as documents
with text printed over an image, low-contrast documents with color
text printed on a color background, or poorly scanned images. ABBYY
FineReader 7.0 recognizes such documents 33% better than its
predecessor.
30-40%* improvement in specialized
legal and medical texts ABBYY FineReader 7.0 includes
specialized legal and medical dictionaries for the English and
German languages, which boosts recognition accuracy of specialized
legal and medical texts by 30-40%.
Improved Layout Analysis and Format
Retention
ABBYY FineReader 7.0 delivers improved
retention of document layouts such as placement of images and
columns, formatting of tables, font sizing, and more. Key areas of
improvement in FineReader 7.0 include:
- Complex tables (such as tables without printed grid lines and
tables with color cells)
- Multiple column documents with images (such as magazine
articles)
- HTML formatting
- Bulleted and numbered lists. FineReader re-creates bullet
styles in Microsoft
Word
Increased PDF Recognition Accuracy
and Functionality
45%* Accuracy
Improvement When recognizing PDF files, ABBYY FineReader
7.0 delivers a significant increase in conversion accuracy - 45%*.
FineReader takes the original image and performs standard
recognition, then it extracts the "text layer" from the PDF file and
performs a comparison to check accuracy and improve recognition
quality.
Saves Edited Documents in
PDF You can now edit recognized documents in the ABBYY
FineReader editor, and the changes you make will be saved in any of
the supported PDF saving formats. With this feature, you will be
able to open an existing PDF file in FineReader, make changes to the
file and save it in PDF with all your changes seamlessly integrated
into the document.
Creates PDF Files Optimized for Web
Publishing All PDF documents created by ABBYY FineReader
are optimized for publishing on the Web: Your readers will be able
to view the first pages of a multi-page PDF document while the
computer is still downloading the rest of the
file.
Microsoft Word XML Output
FineReader 7.0 allows you to export recognized documents as
native XML using the Microsoft Word 2003 defined schema, a widely
anticipated emerging standard for file use. The saved XML files can
be manipulated and searched by any program that processes Word XML.
In addition, it provides the basis for data reporting, publishing
and submitting data to business
processes.
New Editing Capabilities
|
|
Integration with Microsoft Office Word 2003 brings together
the power of the two applications for processing recognized
texts. Now you can edit and check your documents using your
favorite Word editing tools. Thanks to XML support, when
exporting documents to Microsoft Office Word 2003, FineReader
automatically opens an embedded view of the original document
in the FineReader "Zoom" window. As a result, you can
simultaneously edit and view your document, without switching
back and forth between the two
applications. |
Output to Microsoft
PowerPoint
|
 |
ABBYY FineReader 7.0 now supports output to Microsoft
PowerPoint. You can quickly convert presentation handouts or
any other documents to create new presentations or edit
existing ones. (PowerPoint XP and 2003 are
supported.) |
Ease of Use
User-Friendly Interface
|
 |
The program interface has been updated and has
become even more straightforward and user-friendly. The
professional settings have been made more accessible. New
customization tools allow you to fine-tune FineReader windows,
for example, you can make individual Zoom settings for each
window. |
Insertion of Recognized Text into
Microsoft Word You can launch ABBYY FineReader from
Microsoft Word by clicking on the embedded FineReader button,
recognize a piece of text and insert it in the current Word document
right under the mouse cursor. This means that you will be able to
collect information from several paper or PDF documents in one
electronic document.
Sending Recognition Results by
E-mail
|
 |
Recognition results can now be sent by e-mail
as an attachment in any of the supported saving formats
(except Microsoft PowerPoint and
HTML). |
Updated
Tutorial FineReader 7.0 features an updated Tutorial with
additional tips on how to input documents and optimal settings for
delivering the best recognition results. A "samples" section
provides suggestions on the best way to achieve optimal results for
scanning common documents, such as letter, multilingual document,
book, magazine page, PDF file, complex table.
System Administrator’s
Guide ABBYY FineReader 7.0 Corporate Edition now includes
a "System Administrator's Guide," designed for network
administrators to provide technical information on ABBYY
FineReader.
Other New/Improved Features
Barcode Recognition
 |
Detection and recognition of barcodes has been
improved. ABBYY FineReader now also reads PDF-417 2D
barcodes. |
Improved export to Microsoft
Word When saving results in Microsoft Word, the *.doc
file will become smaller compared to the previous versions. The
retention of formatting of documents with various separators has
been improved and new image saving options added, allowing you to
set the sizes of saved images.
Improved WYSIWYG HTML
Output The retention of complex formatting elements has
been improved in HTML (e.g. text flowing around non-rectangular
images). The resulting HTML files are now smaller in size, which is
important for documents published on the Internet.
Duplex Scanning If you
scan a two-sided document using a duplex scanner, you will get
separate images for each side of the document. This option can be
turned on if you need duplex scanning.
JPEG 2000 Support Image
files based on the latest JPEG format can be opened and
saved.
